Should Gifted Education Programs Be Mandated?

My article in the September issue of KidsVT looked at gifted education in Vermont — or actually, at the lack of it. Is the state failing a group of children, by some estimates 10% of the school-age population, if it doesn’t fund gifted programs? In a state like Vermont, where a small tax base means limited resources, that’s a tough question to raise, especially with so many taxpayers already feeling the pinch.

On a side note, since Seven Days bought KidsVT and revamped the publication earlier this year, the parent-and-child focused monthly has been filling a niche by providing thoughtful, fun, articles to Vermont families. But, okay, I’m biased.
